Stomach pain while lying down (left side, below the ribs)?

iv had similar pains when i lay down but it was a little higher. scared it was a heart problem i went to see a doc. she said it was a nerve that i hit when i laid down. in other cases though, embarringly, it could just be gas pains. they can hurt really really bad.
